Standard Deduction: ₹50,000 vs ₹75,000

Salaried and pension taxpayers get a flat standard deduction — ₹50,000 under the old regime and ₹75,000 under the new regime.

The standard deduction is a flat amount subtracted from salary or pension income, no bills required. It is ₹50,000 under the old regime and ₹75,000 under the new regime (from FY 2024-25).

It applies automatically to salaried employees and pensioners and directly reduces taxable income, so it is one of the simplest reliefs available.
