Form 26AS and AIS: Check These Before You File

Your 26AS and Annual Information Statement show the income and TDS the tax department already knows about — reconcile before filing.

Before filing your return, review two statements on the income-tax portal:

  • Form 26AS — a consolidated record of TDS/TCS, advance tax and self-assessment tax paid against your PAN.
  • AIS (Annual Information Statement) — a wider view including interest, dividends, share transactions and more.

Mismatches between these and your return are the most common reason for notices. Reconcile them so you claim the right credit and report all income.

This is general information, not professional advice — confirm the current position for your specific case before acting.
